Assembly Referendum 9151 was recently introduced by New York Assemblyman Richard Gottfried. If passed, this will double the number of medical marijuana dispensaries in the state.
Currently, the ratio for every dispensary in New York and its residents is 1:978,00. The reason for this is because the present law only permits the organizations to operate 20 dispensaries in 13 counties, leaving the rest of 49 counties dispensary-less.
Another inclusion of the proposal is for the last year’s medical cannabis application be received by the state health commissioner. More importantly, the state’s Department of Health needs to authorize five more organizations.
