Caregivers

A caregiver is a person who has a significant responsibility for the health and well-being of a registered patient with a qualifying condition. A caregiver is designated optionally by a registered patient to help the patient in obtaining marijuana for medical use. A caregiver can serve not more than five registered qualifying patients. A caregiver has the same legal protection a qualifying patient has.

A caregiver is not allowed to cultivate marijuana for patients. Marijuana can only obtained or purchased from a licensed dispensary under the Department of Health by registered patients with a chronic or debilitating condition.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or above.
  • Must be registered under the Department of Health to obtain a registry card.
  • Cannot be the patient’s certifying physician.
